Thank you.
Overland Park web marketing: Step 3: Fix those broken links!
Now that the Type and Template are set up, you're ready to fix up those broken links. You'll probably find quite a few in your Analytics reports as soon as you start looking. Even after you fix them all, you'll want to keep checking Analytics for new ones. Sometimes people don't spel too well.
Continuing from our earlier example: If Analytics shows that people are getting the 404-error page when trying to reach "soft-blue-widgets.html," a page that was taken down when there was a trend towards firmer widgets, you may want to redirect the visitor to your new "firmer-blue-widgets.html" page, which has a great conversion ratio!
Start by clicking on "Contents" in the editor toolbar, and then "New."
The "Id" of your new item should be the "original id," in this example "soft-blue-widgets." The "Type" should be set to our new "redirect-404" type.
When you click "Continue" you will be taken to the edit page for your new item. Here the template needs to be set to "redirect-404" as well. If all went well, there should only be one property to specify, namely the id of the destination page. Click update, and your new "redirect page" is ready to be published.
Caveats:
* Make sure you don't put the same id for both the new item name and the "pageid" field. You'll create a page that will redirect to itself, usually creating a negative experience for the site visitor.
* If you need to edit the page after it's created, it can be tricky. After all, it redirects, right? Outsmart it and edit the page from the "Edit by Id" box! You can find "Edit by Id" by clicking "Controls" on the editor toolbar. It's near the bottom of the page.
